About Forsvaret

The Danish Armed Forces - Forsvaret enforce the sovereignty of Denmark and the Commonwealth of Nations and are part of society's overall preparedness. The Danish Armed Forces contribute to international conflict prevention and participate in peacekeeping and peacemaking efforts when the Danish Parliament decides to use military expertise and capacity.

 

The Danish Armed Forces is a unique and versatile workplace, and the values ​​form our common foundation to ensure that The Danish Armed Forces/ Forsvaret continues to be an attractive workplace. We use the values ​​actively to reflect on ourselves, our actions and task solving - in collaboration with our colleagues in and outside The Danish Armed Forces.

 

In 2022, the number of full-time employees in the Ministry of Defense's group (excluding the Defense Intelligence Service) was 21,948, with the proportion of women making up 19%.

 

The values ​​of The Danish Armed Forces are based on a humanistic view of people and a democratic perception of society, where applicable rules, laws and regulations are respected, and where The Danish Armed Forces contribute to peace and stability throughout its activities.

Values

Credibility:

Our actions are considered, ethically sound and consistent with what we say. Employees and managers in The Danish Armed Forces - Forsvaret, act and are perceived to act honestly and fairly with the task at the center. The task is solved in a way that supports and ensures that there is coherence between actions, values, methods and principles of  "walk the talk."

 

Openness:

We strive for transparency in decisions, support for innovative thinking, and handle and learn from our mistakes. The Danish Armed Forces - Forsvaret strive for transparency and communicates about decisions to the extent that it is operationally possible and justifiable. Loyalty towards decisions made is promoted by communicating the background to the decision and  "what can be explained can be defended." Support for new thinking, both from managers and employees, supports the framework for continuous development, commitment and flexibility in task solving. The Danish Armed Forces' employees and managers accept risks and are open about mistakes and learn from them.

 

Confidence:

We can count on our colleagues to do their best to help us, just as we do for them. Trust is a prerequisite for solving The Danish Armed Forces’ core tasks, where employees and managers are dependent on each other and the community - in extreme cases, with their lives as an effort. Trust, recognition and meaningful dialogue create energy and a will for joint task-solving.


Independent:

We make the necessary decisions, correct along the way and keep the goal in mind. The chiefs and employees of The Danish Armed Forces forces solve the core task with a high degree of expertise and professionalism. Employees and managers use and develop their skills and resources constructively to solve the task. Independence supports a continuous delegation of responsibility for deciding goals, means or methods as far out into The Danish Armed Forces as possible. This ensures ownership of the task solution by the individual.

 

Responsibility:

We take responsibility for the tasks we are assigned and solve them within the framework. The employees and managers of The Danish Armed Forces take responsibility for the solution of the task by actively helping to realize the tasks and goals that have been set. All tasks are solved within applicable laws, regulations or general decency, and we speak up if we find that something does not harmonize with this. We all take responsibility for this.
